Wellington Hui Reflection

We began the Wellington hui by reviewing our research, looking at spirals of inquiry and discussing the questions we had around data collection.

Session with Deanne Thomas (Senior Leadership Team - Kaihautū Māori)
Deanne challenged us to think about what manaakitanga and whanaungatanga looks like in schools, and what this looks like in a digital environment.

Cultural background, understanding and identity are key. Students need to know who they are and where they come from.
Dianne challenged us to think about who we view as whānau.
- Who do we invite to our Maori consultation meetings?
- Who do we invite to interviews.
She challenged us to broaden our view of Whānau and invite grandparents to be involved within consultation meetings, at interviews and within the classroom programme.

School Visits
We visited two schools during this hui.
At Silverstream school we visited Linda Ojalia's classroom and saw UDL in action. At Papakowhai School, the Deputy Principal, Shane Robinson, spoke to us about the changes within their school and the importance of having a strong school VISION, and the right people to lead the change.
